This Week’s Lesson: Make It Fun!

funAs I continue turning my home/online business on its ear and switching to a network marketing system, I’m learning things!  This week’s lesson appeared over and over again — make it fun.  You may be in a related business or you may not, but I think the idea of making it fun can apply to many aspects of life.

I am building my business for some huge reasons — there are big goals I’m working towards (see last week’s post here).  Other people start businesses, join my business, or create new ideas to work towards huge goals as well.  These goals are usually tremendously important to the people involved.  On a day to day basis, however, our human nature sometimes intervenes.  We get tired, we get temporarily discouraged, or the constant voice in our heads tells us that we can just do it tomorrow and today we need to lie on the couch like a vegetable.  I’d be the first to say that some downtime is important – we are not robots!  Enjoy yourself and enjoy the fruits of your labor.  But, being an entrepreneur in any kind of business takes a lot of work and there are no shortcuts.  How can we get ourselves motivated to get off the couch and get things done?  Make it fun!

Right now I’m working on ways to make our training get-togethers (that we call “blazes” or “virtual blazes” when we are online) more FUN.  Why not meet in a restaurant or bar and enjoy each other’s company as well as learning and growing our businesses?  Why not meet by the pool when the weather gets nice?  Or why not share, at the beginning of a meeting, positive things that have happened to each of us?  That’s fun!  I’m trying to work on ways to laugh together with my team as well.  First of all, I work with people who are great, funny and fun to be with – and I love that in network marketing we can choose who we’d like to work with – but even with that starting point, I am making more of an effort to be interested in other people’s lives, to treat them to little surprises/gifts/notes (more on the power of gratitude here), and just generally make our interactions enjoyable.

We can choose whatever we do in life and we can choose our responses to any situation.  Why not make it fun?  Your thoughts?  Comment below!
