Favorite Blog Post this Week: Why Exercise? If You’re Working Towards the Skinny Jeans… Stop.

A friend of mine shared a great blog post with me today and I couldn’t help but share it with all of you.  I’m all about detoxing our lives – physically and mentally – and this writer has the perfect perspective on exercise, in my opinion.

Have you been in some kind of exercise group or class and heard the instructor admonish you to keep going so that you can fit into that holiday dress or those skinny jeans?  I know I have!  I was somewhat motivated by that, but it was always a temporary motivation.  Those external factors are too hard to hang onto when the going gets tough and time gets short.

Instead, why not try to simply be a fit person?  Walk more, maybe run more or bike more.  Do active things with your family.  Whatever it is that you do at the gym or at home to workout is the perfect complement to that  – don’t stop those activities!  But, do these things to be healthy, and to practice discipline, and to enjoy happy endorphins – not to fit into the skinny jeans tomorrow.
